Senior SQL Server DBA
Responsibilities:
Establish and implement policies and procedures pertaining to database security, maintenance and use. Understand and use Supervalu’s methodologies to help design, develop and administer databases of slight to large complexity. Support databases development as it pertains to data, database design and database administration of moderately complex databases. This role manages the backend/SQLServer environment supporting the overall database environment.
The DBA monitors and administers the complete technical stack and common areas within the applications such as the administration and optimization of the concurrent managers, technical evaluation of patches and their application. Support the database and interface with their peers in the Windows Administration, Data Storage, Backup Admin, and development areas.
EDUCATION:
BE or MCA will be the first preference
BSc., /BCA will be second preference
MCTS / MCITP/MCSE in SQL Server ,windows certifications are preferred
EXPERIENCE:
4-7 Years of SQL Server DBA experience.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• SQL Server Architecture (SQL2k, SQL2k5, and SQL2k8), including large clustered environments
• Experience with SQL2k and SQL2k5 replication topologies, including large scale deployments
• Installing, Configuring and Administering SQL Servers in Development, Test and Production on stand alone and cluster environment
• Backup and Restore using native SQL, Tivoli and other third party tools
• Thorough understanding and implementation of SQL Server Security
• Troubleshooting SQL Server production issues
• Analyze and resolve performance issues including SQL Statement tuning
• Monitoring SQL Server Jobs
• Monitor systems and applications for defect, performance, capacity, etc.
• Rebuilding indexes
• ETL development / deployment to production
• Moving objects from QA to Production databases
• Disaster recovery
• Acts as owner of all the incidents requiring administrative changes
• Acts as owner of all the incidents assigned to the DBA group
• Perform unscripted monitoring or complex monitoring as a result of an incident
• Focused on maintaining Service Level Agreements(SLA) and Operational Level Agreements(OLA) for both administrative and non-administrative tasks
• Proficient in database query languages
• Ability to identify and report issue that are or will affect the environment as they may pertain to impact to the users.
• Can acquire a better overall understanding of how each application works, enabling them better support the needs of the application
• Has a better understanding of how the application impacts the overall business
• Assists in the development of load and extraction processes.
• Work with other support group on the tuning of the operating system, network, and transaction processors to work with the database
• Work with the application team to review the data structures, selection of the physical structure, review indexes, clustered indexes, file groups, etc.
• Capacity planning and storage management within RDBMS
• Understanding of company operating system and computer hardware.
• Possess knowledge in system development lifecycle
• Possess a general knowledge of logical and physical database design
• Works well with others to affect desired results.
• Possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Able to support 24*7 environments with SQL Server Team.
• Need to be part of the On-call rotation.
